Will Home-Start agree to support the family?
As long as we have a suitable
volunteer available, we will agree to support a family if: The family has consented There is at least
one child under 5 The family lives in the Borough of Welwyn Hatfield A Home-Start referral form has been
completed There is no perceived danger to the personal safety of those visiting the family. Please
note that we only take on a family if the family itself gives us their consent. If the family does not want a Home-Start volunteer
to visit, whatever the circumstances, then we don’t visit.
How do I refer a family to Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield?
You need to complete
a Referral Form and send it to: Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield, Countess Anne
Childcare Centre, School Lane, Hatfield, Herts AL10 8AX
We shall then get in touch with you and with the
family to discuss how we can help.
What happens when a family is referred? The family is visited by
the Home-Start co-ordinator to discuss the ways in which we can help. We do not force solutions on families - we only provide
the kind of support that the family believes it needs. The co-ordinator then matches the family to a volunteer. This
is done as quickly as possible, although - depending on the number of volunteers currently available - it may take a little
while to find the right match. The co-ordinator introduces the volunteer to the family, and the volunteer visits the
family for 2/3 hours each week providing the kind of support that the family needs. The Home-Start co-ordinator keeps in touch
with the family and makes sure their needs are being addressed. This arrangement continues for as long as is appropriate.
When the parents, the volunteer and the co-ordinator believe the family will be able to cope without Home-Start, the support
is withdrawn.
