Home-Start Charity Art Show raises £1,200
Home-Start
Welwyn Hatfield held a charity art exhibition in the Howard Centre over August Bank Holiday weekend.
It
was a great location. Many hundreds of people visited the Centre over the weekend. Many stopped to look at
the exhibition, and a number took the opportunity to buy one or more of the paintings that were on display.
The paintings were contributed by various local artists, some semi-prefessional, some keen amateurs and a
few who were novices. We thank all those who gave up their precious time to contribute their works.
It
was all a great success, raising a total of £1,200 for Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield.
Street Collection in WGC raises £284
If you were
out and about in Welwyn Garden City on Saturday, 6 August, you may have noticed various volunteers from Home-Start Welwyn
Hatfield collecting money on behalf of the charity. They included Hope the Hippo in front of the Howard Centre.
It was all good fun and we raised £284.
Win a Car for a Fiver at The World Comes to Wheathampstead
It may have been a very wet day, but the Home-Start team braved the elements at The World Comes to Wheathampstead
on 12 June.
We held a roll-the-dice competition in which - for just £5 - people could win a brand
new Citroen C1 VT1. This snazzy, sporty little number was provided by Slip End Garage Ltd.
All the proceeds came to Home-Start, and despite the weather we raised £550 and had a lot of fun along the way.
(Slip End Garage Ltd is in Markyate Road, Slip End, Luton LU1 4BU. 01582 456888)

Ros's birthday bash raises nearly £600 for Home-StartRos Dixon, a friend of Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield, has held her 60th birthday party. Nothing very unusual
about that, perhaps, except that instead of presents she asked for donations to Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield. And as a
result, she raised just short of a cool £600.
We owe a big thank-you to Ros...

Welwyn Hatfield had a stall at the lively Kaleidoscope Festival 2010, at Stanborough Park on 17 July. We were
delighted to talk to lots of people who wanted to know more about Home-Start and what we do. It was an unforgettable afternoon
- and on top of that we made a profit of around £200.

Celebrating St George's Day in Hatfield
What
a great day! What a great atmosphere! And an opportunity to meet so many nice people. Home-Start's stall was in the middle of the celebrations at Hatfield Town Centre. We raised around £200,
had a fantastic time, and spoke to a number of people who are interested in becoming Home-Start volunteers. Our thanks go to Lynn Sparks for organising the event.
Grant Shapps joins us at Howard Centre launch
Grant
Shapps MP, who at the time was the Patron of our charity, joined us to a photo-shoot at the Howard Centre
to launch Home-Start Welwyn Hatfield. Also present was our mascot Hope, the Home-Start hippo.
Hope the Home-Start Hippo makes debut at Christmas WrappingWe
held our first fund-rasing event on Sunday, 20 December 2009 when we provided a Christmas present wrapping service
at the Howard Centre.
And it was also the first public appearance of Hope the Home-Start hippo
– who looked very noticeable walking around the Howard Centre.
We had a good day and made nearly £250 – thanks loads to everyone who helped.
We even had several relatives and friends joining in with the wrapping and publicity…
